VanPOCUS has a new publication in CJEM on using POCUS in pediatric resuscitation. This Just the Facts piece answers focused questions on how to integrate POCUS into your management of the critically ill child. It’s accompanied by an elegant infographic. If you see kids in the emergency department, make sure you read this paper.
The POCUS fellowship enjoyed a fun year-end event with our fellow Maryse Fagnant. We grabbed lunch at Tacofino and had a nice hike out to Quarry Rock in Deep Cove. Thanks to Melissa Skaugset, Justin Ahn, and Rahim Manji for coming out to see Maryse off!
The POCUS literature primer series continues with a paper focusing on the top 5 most influential papers on aorta POCUS and DVT POCUS. You can find this in the April issue of the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine. The 15-member expert panel used a modified Delphi process and 3 rounds of sequential surveys to create this shortlist.
We are collaborating with Michael Gottlieb and his team to do a Cochrane review on the use of transtracheal ultrasound for endotracheal intubation. Our protocol description has been published by the Cochrane group, so you can check out the plan for this systematic review.
We had a great turnout at fellowship journal club where Maryse reviewed two papers: a case report on the lipliner sign by Parker et al and the first publication from the new National Ultrasound-Guided Nerve Block Registry by Goldsmith et al.
The POCUS fellowship welcomed Maryse Fagnant to the program and kicked off a new academic year with a semi-competitive archery event followed by dinner at Chambar. We’re excited to host Maryse for the year from Montreal!
The next paper in the POCUS literature primer series identified the top 5 most influential papers on cardiac POCUS and the top 5 most influential papers on lung POCUS. We developed consenus amongst our 14-member expert panel using a a modified Delphi process and 3 rounds of sequential surveys. This is primary literature that any POCUS fellow should know!
